Education

Education:

  • The government funds state wide schooling for children up to 19 years old.  
  • 93% of children go to state funded schools throughout England and the rest go to private schools.  
  • Ages 3-4 go to nursery school
  • Ages 4-11 go to primary school
  • Ages 11-16 go to secondary school
  • After finishing secondary school pupils take a statewide test called the GCSE. This test helps them get into college for 2 years or 4 years.  
  • Most students go to college at the age of 18 and to study for academic careers.  
  • Student loans are very popular and many students try to receive finacial assitance for college. 
  • Like in the US the public schools are controlled by governmental offices and the private schools are led by an independent organization.
  • England has some of the most popular universities in the world such as: Cambridge, Oxford, and Winchester College.
