Family Structure
Family Structure:
- Nuclear Family:
- A family consisting of two parents (man and woman) and their children.
- England's family structure has changed drastically throughout the years. Throughout the history of England families have resembled a nuclear family. Today that is not the case in many households.
- Today the family structure is changing because of many reasons. There are more single parent households now than there ever has been in England. Also the rise of same sex parents has caused the idea of the "typical"nuclear family to change.
- Single parent Households:
- The increasing in single family households has been linked to education and behavioral problems.
- With divorce rates up leaving many children are growing up with a mother or a father and not both. For every three marriages performed there are two divorces. This is the highest divorce rate in Europe.
- Extended Family:
- Many families live in separately from extended families. Families are very close and have contact with all members if possible. If needed it is common for parents to move in with their children or grandchildren
- Like in America if something is to happen to parents it is very common for the children to live with their grandparents, aunt, uncle, or another member of the extended family.
- Families spend holidays together such as Christmas, Easter, and birthdays.
