Minimum Wage:
- The minimum wage rate is 6.08 pounds throughout England. This depends on the age of the employee. If you are in compulsory school (through the age of 16) you are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage rate.
- The NMW taken very seriously and is not subject to change unless the government changes it themselves.
Hours per Week:
- The maximum hours of work per week is 48.
- One can work more hours only if they even it out during a 17 week period.
- Working more than 48 hours a week for 17 weeks is considered unlawful and the employer can be charged with overworking their employees.
- However, if you are 18 or older and you voluntarily choose to work more than 48 hours you can do so by signing an agreement. You can choose to cancel this agreement at any time
- Anything job related counts for the hours. This includes traveling, overtime, and working during meals.
- Breaks and vacation do not count towards weekly hours.
- If an employee works more than one job the hours the employee works should not exceed the 48 hour limit
Holiday and Leave:
- The minimum amount of time an employee is subject to for holiday time off is 5.6 weeks. This is the minimum and many employers give their employees more time off.
- For the most part you can choose when you take your vacation days however your employer has the right to have the final say.
